SO₂ Oxidation Catalyst for WSA Process

The WSA catalyst is designed for the catalytic oxidation of sulfur dioxide (SO₂) to sulfur trioxide (SO₃) in the WSA sulfuric acid production process. Catalyst formulation, shape, dimensions, and operating characteristics are selected according to the process gas composition and specific project requirements.

Description

The SO₂ oxidation catalyst is a key functional material used in the converter of the WSA process.

During Wet Gas Sulfuric Acid production, the catalyst promotes the oxidation of sulfur dioxide (SO₂) to sulfur trioxide (SO₃). The SO₃ subsequently reacts with water vapor to form sulfuric acid vapor, which is then condensed in the WSA condenser.

The catalyst is loaded into one or more catalyst beds within the converter. Catalyst activity, mechanical strength, porosity, and pressure drop are important factors affecting SO₂ conversion efficiency, equipment stability, and overall emission performance.

Pellet shape and dimensions, catalyst loading density, operating temperature range, and allowable gas velocity are determined according to the technical specifications of the specific catalyst grade and the design requirements of the WSA system.

Catalyst formulation, promoter composition, service life, and operating performance should be confirmed according to the manufacturer’s official technical data sheet for the selected catalyst grade.
