WSA Condenser Shell

The WSA condenser shell is a steel structure containing vertically arranged glass tubes. The lower section of the shell is protected with acid-resistant brick lining, while the upper section is protected with fluoropolymer lining. The condenser is designed to cool process gas and condense sulfuric acid in the WSA process.

Description

The WSA condenser shell serves as the main structural and protective body of the condenser used in the Wet Gas Sulfuric Acid (WSA) process. A large number of vertical glass tubes are installed inside the steel shell.

During operation, the process gas is cooled by a counter-current flow of cooling air. Sulfuric acid vapor condenses on the inner surfaces of the glass tubes, after which the liquid sulfuric acid flows downward into the lower section of the condenser and is discharged to the acid collection and cooling system.

To protect the shell from hot concentrated sulfuric acid and other corrosive process conditions, different internal protection systems are applied according to the operating zone:

Lower section: Acid-resistant brick lining
Upper section: Fluoropolymer lining
Condensation surface: Corrosion-resistant vertical glass tubes
Service: Suitable for WSA process gas and sulfuric acid condensation

In a typical WSA process, the process gas is cooled from approximately 280°C to 100°C. Actual operating conditions depend on the gas composition, plant capacity, and specific project requirements.

The condenser shell is manufactured according to project-specific design requirements using welded and, where required, riveted connections. After fabrication, leak-tightness testing is carried out to verify the integrity of the equipment.

Shell dimensions, number of glass tubes, lining system, and connection design are determined according to the technical specifications and process requirements of each project.
