WSA Acid Mist Control Unit (MCU)

The WSA Acid Mist Control Unit (MCU) is an auxiliary system used in the WSA process. It introduces fine condensation nuclei into the process gas to promote the formation of larger sulfuric acid droplets in the WSA condenser, thereby reducing sulfuric acid mist carryover with the gas stream.

Description

The Acid Mist Control Unit (MCU) is used in the Wet Gas Sulfuric Acid (WSA) process to control the formation of fine H₂SO₄ aerosol during the cooling and condensation of process gas.

A metered quantity of silicone oil or organosilicon oil is combusted inside the unit, generating fine silicon-containing particles. These particles are uniformly introduced into the process gas through a mixer installed in the pipeline between the converter and the WSA condenser. During gas cooling, the particles act as condensation nuclei. Sulfuric acid vapor preferentially condenses on these nuclei, forming larger sulfuric acid droplets. This improves condensation efficiency and reduces the formation and carryover of fine sulfuric acid mist from the condenser with the process gas stream.

Oil dosing rate, oil consumption, unit capacity, mixer configuration, and connection points are designed according to the process gas composition and flow rate,

operating temperature, and specific requirements of each WSA project.

Functionally, this equipment is an Acid Mist Control Unit (MCU), rather than an acid mist control cabinet or a degassing unit.
